my mother's mother's hands

Single channel moving image with interview dialogue.

A collaboration between mother and daughter, 'my mother's mother's hands' explores themes of self-care, social class, and performance in public and private spaces. What is inherited and what is cultural across four generations of women is examined through conversation and the familiar, intimate act of putting on hand cream. This collaborative film bridges the gap between documentary and artist moving image, observation and performance, to provide an experimental portrait of inter-generational relationships and shared memory.

Part of an ongoing collaborative body of work between mother and daughter examining inherited stories and inter-generational narratives. Titled 'Stories of Grandma', the project will use video, interviews and story telling, performance and recreation, to explore our relationships with the women known as Grandma.
